• President’s Memorial Award for the unsung hero awarded to #19 Matt Lizotte. The Unsung Hero award was renamed the President’s Memorial Award In memory of William (Billy) MacGregor in 2018. Awarded to the player that contributes to the team behind the scenes with a positive attitude, a willingness to help in whatever capacity necessary, and a commitment to excellence.

We are pleased to announce that Matt Varnes will the leading the team into the 2026/27 season as Head Coach.  

Matt graduated from the University of Winnipeg with a Bachelor of Physical Education along with an education degree and is currently a teacher and instructor at Churchill Hockey Academy since 2018.  Matt is an alumnus of our program and was a Twin in the MMJHL from 2007 – 2011.  He also played professionally in Kemi, Finland and Knoxville, Tennessee. After playing, he continued to share his love for the game by coaching and developing young athletes. Matt has coached in several different programs including both male and female high school hockey, Max Hockey and Bar Down Hockey Academy. Matt is passionate about the growth and development of all young hockey players and continues to develop and expand his own knowledge of the game.
